About Your Home.

The more you understand your house, the better decisions you'll make about it. Here are the questions we hear most.

Why is my house muggy even though the AC runs?

Your AC cools the air, but comfort also depends on how much moisture it pulls out. If the system is oversized, it cools the room fast and shuts off before it has run long enough to remove humidity. The house hits the temperature but still feels sticky. The fix is usually about run time and airflow, not a bigger unit.

Why is my upstairs always hotter than downstairs?

Heat rises, attic heat radiates down, and one thermostat can't balance two floors on its own. This is almost always an airflow and ductwork problem. A bigger unit rarely fixes it; better airflow and balance do.

My system is newer (or bigger). Why doesn't it feel better?

Bigger isn't better with HVAC. An oversized system short-cycles: it doesn't run long enough for air to pass over the coils and pull moisture out, so the house stays muggy. A correctly sized, variable-speed system runs longer and removes more moisture.

Why does my attic get so hot, and does it matter?

A summer attic can pass 130 to 150 degrees. That heat radiates into your living space and makes your AC work harder, and trapped moisture up there can lead to mold and rot. Managing attic heat and moisture takes load off your whole system. (See our ATMOX page.)

What does humidity have to do with comfort?

A lot. Two houses at the same temperature can feel completely different depending on humidity. High indoor humidity is why a house can feel muggy at 72 degrees. Controlling moisture is often the missing piece.

Why are my ducts sweating, or why is there condensation?

When a cold surface meets humid air, moisture condenses on it, the same way a cold glass sweats on a summer day. Sweating ducts point to a humidity or insulation issue, and over time that moisture can cause damage. It's a sign worth looking into.

How often should I change my filter?

Check it monthly and change it when it looks dirty, usually every one to three months depending on the filter and your home. A clogged filter chokes airflow and makes the whole system work harder.

Do you offer maintenance plans?

Yes. Our Comfort Plans cover two visits a year, and we show you what we found each time. Regular maintenance keeps your system running efficiently and catches small problems before they become expensive ones.
